Just a small update this time. I’ve fixed a bug where the plugin downloaded images that already existed in the save folder, before checking to to see if the images existed.

This should now save more bandwidth and time when downloading images!

Added support for the following 4chan-style image boards:

• Chansluts

If there are any more boards that you would like supported, drop me a line and I’ll add it to the next incremental update.

In addition to the newly supported boards, FireFox should now automatically announce when an update to the FireChan plugin is available.

Download FireChan 0.1.1

This minor update changes the FireChan button to a menu button and lists all of the installed image boards. Clicking on the button will load the trawler page as normal, but clicking on the arrow will bring up the board menu. Each option allows you to load up the image board in a new tab, just like a normal bookmark.

Also updated is the maximum version number of FireFox that the plugin supports - from version 2 to 3. If there are any issues with FireFox 3 beta or any subsequent release, please comment with information.

FireChan is a Mozilla FireFox plugin designed to trawl the 4-chan image boards and save the images to your hard drive. Currently, this is a PC only plugin as the images will be saved in the C:/Images/ folder. Future updates will allow you to select the save directory prior to trawling.

How to use:

• Download the FireChan 0.1.0 Plugin (if it won’t install, Right Click->Save Link As and then drag the file onto FireFox)
• Once the plugin is installed and FireFox is restarted, right-click on any of the toolbars at the top of the browser and select Customise.
• In the Customise Toolbar dialog box, you will find an icon for FireChan; simply drag this onto any of your toolbars to begin using.
• Clicking on the FireChan button will load the trawler page - you can load as many pages as you want.
• Select the board you wish to trawl, and click the Search button.
• Go make some tea whilst your images download.

Don’t worry if a few of the text boxes look like Martian text, it is there for the more advanced use to change should they wish.

Please note that this does increase the load on the 4-chan servers and I would ask that you only perform these trawls no more than once per day at non-peak times. Leech, but leech responsibly.

• Hide XPath boxes
• Add “select save directory” option.
